Triple Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter in an inadvertent collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of the big man, and he instantly went down to the court grabbing his leg.
The 30-year-old, that leads the NBA this season in rebounds and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to suffering the problem.
The player will have an scan on the following day to assess the seriousness of the issue.
"Immediately, Jokic understood there was a problem," said Denver head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that is injured, that's tough to see, most notably somebody as special as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Obviously, right now, I'm more worried just about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing a situation of that nature."
