The Young Spinner Earns Surprise Selection in English Ashes Squad
England have chosen a 12-man selection just two days ahead of the first Ashes Test, with the 22-year-old spinner earning a unexpected spot.
Bashir's inclusion suggests that the tourists will delay until the day of the initial match to decide whether Perth Stadium pitch suit four seamers or the addition of a spin bowler.
Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are part of the 12-man group, showing there are no doubts about either pace bowler’s fitness.

Ground Conditions Lean Toward Pace Bowlers

Alternative Choices Weighed
There had been speculation that Will Jacks could be parachuted into the team to offer some spin while additionally bolstering the lower order.
However the coach has chosen to stick with Bashir, having said earlier this year that he would be his preferred slow bowler for the Ashes.
In July, Lyon described the English spinner as “decent,” adding that “from my perspective, the experienced spinner is still England’s top slow bowler.”
“This is a huge responsibility, and it can be a massive challenge for people who lack experience in the past in these conditions,” Lyon remarked of spin bowling in Australian Tests.
