The President Invites Families of Injured National Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Devastating Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, informed the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Policy Revisions
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event prompted the government to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
