One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to independently develop this new flavor within an individual series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Founders and Corporate Owner

The recent development deepens the ongoing conflict among the world-famous dessert company and its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods giant that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have asserted how the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur stated via social media that he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its coloration, that mirror those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism and Current Developments

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Intentions

The founder revealed how he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns which the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company in September, following decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how its independence had been undermined following Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can fulfill the social mission, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
