Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
