Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year after leading derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Previous History Involving the Striker & Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
