Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
