Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left leg post-delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.

The English side has been without key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
